Our Bill of Rights – limitations on the power of Government – is one of the greatest gifts that our Founders left to us. The Second Amendment, the Right to keep and bear arms, more than any other provision in our founding documents, gives us the power to remain free and safe.
All governments fear their citizens. But, an unarmed citizenry is easily controlled, especially by a tyrannical government.
Personal ownership of firearms allows every citizen the ability to defend life and family from danger.
In Florida, we have two serious restrictions on our Right to self defense. First, is the so-called Red Flag laws. Second, is the restriction on young adults to purchase firearms. Both are reactions to increasing violence in our society. Both are misdirected. Both are the result of poor legislative thinking that says, “Do Something!”
Red Flag laws allow law enforcement to confiscate firearms and ammunition without a judicial warrant or court order. This policy is ripe for abuse. It can leave an individual or family without defense in the face of immenent danger. It can be used as a harassing tactic. It can cost the victim thousands of dollars in legal fees. It is a violation of Due Process.
18 is the age of maturity – the beginning of adulthood. It is the time when individuals should have their Right to self defense protected. The restrictions on gun purchase and ownership between 18 and 21 should be terminated.
